Bester Feed & Grain Zambia (Bester Zambia) opened its doors in October 2015 in Lusaka after Bester’s active trading involvement in Southern Africa over the past 8years. Procurement of animal feed raw material has been sourced from Botswana,Zimbabwe, Zambia, Mozambique, Malawi, and Tanzania. By using this network, it was a natural transition to extend our footprint into Africa by registering the business in Zambia.

All raw materials and grain are sourced directly from approved farmers, oilseed crushers, and millers. We offer a full logistical service that includes road transport, clearing, warehousing, and delivery directly from the source to the client’s premises.
Bester Feed& Grain Namibia (Bester Namibia) operates in conjunction with Bester Feed& Grain and Bester Zambia in trading with grains and feed commodities in the Southern African region. In addition to rendering services to the Namibian consumers and suppliers of grains and feedstuffs, Bester Namibia is also involved in exports from Namibia, in line with the tax, commercial, and currency requirements of the Namibian Government. Typical export products include fish meal and meat and bone meal.
Sourcing, processing, and exporting are the three main functions of Bester Fruit &Nuts (BFN). These functions are incorporated into a trade solution that is continuously improved to strengthen the link between farmers’ produce and the international consumer market. BFN manages the whole supply chain to ensure customers across the globe receive their produce in the most effective and timely manner.

The Vaalharts Pecan Plant is situated in the Vaalharts area, where more than half of South African pecan nuts are grown. The main functions of the Vaalharts Pecan Plant are sizing, grading, and cracking pecan nuts. Nuts acceptable for in-shell exports are cleaned and sized accordingly, whereas pecan nut halves and pieces go through a more rigorous process of cracking and grading. After representative nut samples are drawn, they are analysed according to physical, microbiological, and chemical specifications. Each shipment receives a detailed analysis sheet with pecan nut specifications to ensure conformity.
The VaalhartsPecan Plant undergoes an annual audit process to ensure processing procedures comply with the British Retail Consortium (BRC) standards.

Products
One of the leading products is TreoSOY, a high rumen bypass protein enhancing the growth of young animals, wool production of sheep, as well as milk production in the high-producing dairy cow. Other products, like TreoSun (sunflower based),Treoblend (soy and sunflower) as well as Enhance (full-fat soy and soy meal),provide a spectrum of bypass amino acids, as well as improved energy yields.That improves the economical results of milk and milk solids production and the growth and feed conversion ratio of beef or mutton production. Moorreesburg Silobag Depot (MSD) is situated in the Swartland region of the Western Cape, near Moorreesburg. In 2010, MSD met all the requirements for storage as a JSECommodity Derivative Market (SAFEX) delivery point and was subsequently registered as such for grain, making it the first silo bag depot in SouthAfrica listed on the JSE. The facility has a capacity of 40 000 tons and is equipped with the latest grading equipment, a weighbridge, and an electronic stock management system. MSD’s highly trained staff ensures the correct grading and management procedures. As the depot’s name indicates, grain is stored in silo bags. The silo bags are 60 to 120-metre-long polyethylene bags that can each take up to 180-400 tons of grain.
MSD has established a healthy element of competition in the grain storage industry.This encourages a continuous strive towards greater efficiency, resulting in lower storage costs.
National PrideLucerne is a lucerne (Alfalfa) processing plant situated in Jan Kempdorp, Northern Cape. Depending on the bale size, the warehouses can store approximately 12,000 tons of Big Pack bales, weighing between 500 and 800 kilograms. This enables Bester to store and transport producers’ lucerne as effectively as possible. The warehouse aims to add value by grading and milling lucerne using the best equipment in Southern Africa.

Bester Storage is a 2200m² warehouse facility strategically located in the Vanderbijlpark area, providing easy access to the main distribution routes in the country. The company's focus is on offering temporary storage for agricultural commodities from all regions, including neighbouring countries. Bester Storage is equipped with specialised handling equipment and managed by a local team, ensuring clients' inventory accuracy and product safety.
Louis Maree Depot (LMD) is conveniently located in the heart of the Free State, near the town of Marquard. This secure silo bag storage facility primarily receives maize, soybeans, sunflower seeds, and occasionally wheat. As one of the larger depots in the area, LMD has a capacity of 80,000 tons and is equipped with the latest grading equipment to ensure optimal handling. Grain is stored in 120-meter silo bags, each capable of holding 180 to 380 tons of product, depending on the commodity.
The depot offers screening services to clients and has drying facilities to address any moisture issues. LMD is registered as a Safex delivery point, and our highly skilled staff is always on hand to provide superior service to our clients.
BCB Sitrus is the latest addition to the group's primary agricultural investments. The farm is located on the Berg River between Piketberg and Porterville and covers 70 hectares. Lemons destined for the export market are currently being established.
BBB Blueberries is a 35 ha, under-net, blueberry farm in the Porterville district where four different cultivars are farmed and mainly exported to Europe. The farm employs about 600 workers during the picking season which runs from July to November. This contributes to job creation in the local community, providing a source of income to many households.
Bester Pekans, acquired in 2015, is situated in the Vaalharts district near Jan Kempdorp. The farm spans across 100 hectares and is primarily dedicated to cultivating pecan trees. 35 hectares are occupied by well-established pecan trees, while the remaining 65 hectares were newly planted in 2018, reflecting our commitment to continuous growth and expansion.
To ensure optimal processing and preparation for export, the harvested pecans from BesterPekans are transported to Vaalharts Pecan Plant in Hartswater. This state-of-the-art facility, operated by Bester Fruit & Nuts, handles the processing of the pecans, with a primary focus on catering to the Chinese market. Our dedication to delivering high-quality products has positioned us as a prominent exporter to China.
Mount Pierre is located in the Ubunto district of Victoria West in the Great Karoo. The farm focuses on breeding Merino sheep, Tuli cattle and game and is managed by Jagpoort Boerdery. The Merino farm is RWS certified and supplies top-quality wool for the export market, while the meat component is accredited to supply the Karoo name brand. The game farm breeds 12 different Karoo-adapted species that focuses on supporting the local hunting industry for biltong, horns and skins.
